Each year, my work has a similar focus: Slow down to speed up. Slowing down can help you regain your footing, bring you clarity, and establish healthy boundaries.
Throwing posts on social media is not going to bring you more clients. Creating 100 different offerings is not going to increase your revenue drastically. That’s like trying to hang art on a wall that is not built yet. Instead of being in constant creation overload, you need a firm business strategy and foundation.
Here are 5 business growth tips to speed up business growth, which probably aren’t what you expect.
1. Pause
If you are feeling overwhelmed and are scrambling, it’s time to hit the pause button. Take a week or two away from social media, email, and marketing creation; it won’t kill your audience or you. If you had a client who was breathless to the point of form failure and was at risk of injury, wouldn’t you encourage them to take a moment to catch their breath before jumping back in? Stop creating. Stop posting. Stop pushing. Pause.
2. Reflect
Now that you have paused to catch your breath, you must reflect on yourself as a business. What is your expertise? If I gave you a microphone and asked for you to speak about a topic for over 30-minutes joyfully, what would you share? Write down 5 of those topics. These should be your focal points moving forward.
3. Link
Do your 5 topics speak to the pain points of your target market? If they do not, there is a business strategy disconnect. You aren’t speaking their language and not connecting with your potential clients. Spend some time brainstorming on how your expertise can answer the questions your target market is Googling at 2am. This linking process is an important tip for business growth.
4. Create
Now that you know your expertise and how it links to your audience’s needs, you need something to sell. Not everything, just a few choice programs that fit your business strategy. Remember, you are not super Target – you cannot make everyone happy. Instead, focus on the needs of your audience and create content, programs, and offerings that your audience wants.
5. Attract
Your marketing strategy should not be entirely focused on selling. Marketing is about establishing trust – your customers need to trust you before they will purchase from you. Think of it like fishing – you must know what fish you are searching for before picking your bait and body of water. Your “bait” should attract your fish just like your marketing efforts should attract your target market. Use the bait your client market wants; share education, tips, tricks, and knowledge with some selling sprinkled in.
