I dread working with a client every week. I find myself scheduling over their time, choosing to work on other projects besides theirs, and not doing my best work. Theoretically, I should love this client. The work is exciting, and I am passionate about the product. So what’s going on?
They are not my dream client.
While my service makes me happy, the client is not within my target. I have been forcing them into my business when I should have referred them to someone I know who loves working with this client’s style.
One of my career mentors once told me to drop my duds, and that advice drastically changed my journey. I am forever grateful for that advice.
So, I must drop my dud to make space to work with my dream clients. Are you ready to do the same? Here are five other things to stop doing to attract the right clients.
Stop Saying You Are For Everyone
And start pinpointing your dream client. You cannot make everyone happy, and everyone cannot make you happy. That is OK! Drop your duds to free up time to work with clients you want. Be firm and direct with who you want to serve. Describe the demographic as precisely as possible, then check out these tips to help attract them to you.
Stop Throwing Spaghetti
And start creating a plan. Innovation and risks are vital to a successful business, but it can’t be ALL your business decisions. At some point, you must decide what is working, put systems in place, and dive deeper into the content, programs, and offerings your target audience uses.
Stop Focusing on You
And start answering the questions your audience is Googling at 2 a.m. Switch your focus to being the solution to your audience’s pain points, offering them content they are already actively searching for.
Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
And start working towards your personal goal. We all tend to go to an irrational place in our mind that tells us our lives are not measuring up; it is time to let that shit go. You are not inadequate as an entrepreneur – you are just comparing yourself to the fakeness social media presents. Create your own goal & work towards it with small steps.
Stop Doing It All Alone
And start partnering with others. Just like your clients, you need mentors, coaches, and help. You are not an island. You do not have to do this alone. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness; it’s a sign of self-respect.
